Frozen in the ice for decades, Captain America is freed to battle against arch-criminal, The Red Skull.
During World War II, a brave, patriotic American Soldier undergoes experiments to become a new supersoldier, "Captain America." Racing to Germany to sabotage the rockets of Nazi baddie "Red Skull", Captain America winds up frozen until the 1990s. He reawakens to find that the Red Skull has changed identities and is now planning to kidnap the President of the United States.
The reason why Marvel can't get a decent box-office hit is because they don't have a big motion picture corporation backing them like DC does (DC is owned by Warner Brothers). Even though Men in Black was a success, Marvel has had more hits than misses: The Spider Man TV movies, The Punisher (a guilty pleasure of mine to watch), and The Fantasic Four (I remember E! making a big deal about it, but I never saw it in the theatres or the video stores). Captain America is also another Marvel movie miss. Talent like Matt Salenger, Ronny Cox, Ned Beatty, Bill "Don't call me Billy" Mumy, and Darren McGavin are wasted in this 97 minute disaster. You don't get to learn much of the characters and the storyline is bouncing all over the place. Kim Gillingham shows promise as she plays a duel role as Cappy's girlfriend back in the 40's, and his girlfriend's daughter in the 90's. There is some songs by Southside Johnny and one of the Neville brothers on the soundtrack for what it's worth. Still, this looks like a thrown together production of a super hero film that deserved better treatment. What a tragedy.
This one is truly awful, but if you are in the right state of mind, the ludicrous plot, the crappy special FX and the fact that both Cap and The Red Skull don&#39;t wear their trademark costumes/make-up for most of the movie will have you howling with laughter. And let&#39;s not forget the &quot;I&#39;m sick, pull over&quot; trick Captain America (walking around with his shield in a giant bag) uses twice to steal a car.<br/><br/>In short, if you&#39;re into faithful adaptations of comics and superheroes, avoid Albert Pyuns travesty like the plague, but if you are into enjoying crappy movies, go find it. And pick up a copy of &#39;Nick Fury, agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.&#39; as well.

The movie was directed by Albert Pyun which apparently seemed to have similar consequences as his most famous movie Cyborg. After differences during the production process, the studio altered the movie quite heavily and the final cut didn&#39;t have much in common with Pyun&#39;s original version. Furthermore, the scheduled theatrical release was postponed several until the movie was released direct-to video in 1992. <br/><br/>The Director&#39;s Cut<br/><br/>…is available on disc 2 of the 3-Disc-Set from Pyun&#39;s homepage and it&#39;s approx. 14 minutes longer than the regular US-Version. Unfortunately, the end result isn&#39;t as spectacular as expected due to its history. There&#39;s just a longer block of scenes in the middle of the movie which is a nice charakter development. The new footage proves the stronger focus of Captain America&#39;s inner conflict. Besides new footage, some footage has simply been recycled as flashback. As already mentioned, it&#39;s rather unspectacular and it doesn&#39;t look very professional either.<br/><br/>The Commentary Version<br/><br/>AS mentioned before, the Director&#39;s Cut (differing from the Original Version) is only available on Pyun&#39;s homepage. The customer always receives a 3-Disc-Set whereas the 3rd disc contains a newer production of Pyun&#39;s company. Technicalla, the first 2 discs BOTH contain Pyun&#39;s favorite version (verifiable due to the alternate beginning and the flashback at the end) but there&#39;s still a difference of several minutes which is confusing. But don&#39;t worry, the following comparison will shed some light on it.<br/><br/>Disc 1 contains the unedited workprint with a director&#39;s commentary track instead of the regular audio track (there&#39;s a black screen for 4 minutes at the beginning which contains nothing but Pyun&#39;s voice). In this commentary, Pyun mentions his plans to edit this version for a future release on Blu-ray.
